Looking back . . . . .

With Retro Specs

I must have been terribly ordinary

even unattractive, out of style,

dull and boring, thin in places,

thick in others, bookish, boring,

too tense to dance, too righteous

to swear or choose a

sexy thing to wear.

Thank God.

For no one ever

grabbed my cheeks or touched

my breast or asked me to

their room and closed the door.

Those were not the tools I used

To get ahead. Instead,

I had the look

of one well read, one of

whom it could be said

This girl knows who she is

and where she wants to go.

I think she plans to go alone and

later let us know.

Doris, that photo is of a beautiful woman, which you still are.

Part of the reason you were spared problems was where and when you lived and grew up. Although women of all eras were raped and molested, it may be more common now. Plus many women are now willing to come forward.

Perhaps it is also that you weren’t living and working in seats of power.

Yes, how you act is important but you have always been beautiful.

Amazing! Was that you in the photo? Were you athletic? What did you do back then in 1948? 🙂
